Massive Oil Leak

Oil drain plug is dry and the oil filter cup is tight.

Check front cam seals if your 2001 still has the originals. I suspect the intake front cam seal has blown out.

Be careful with that jacking protocol please, especially when it’s oily

Thanks for your warning, well appreciated!
I have a second backup stand; always do no matter how small a job I am doing.
When jacking it up again, I will reposition away from the oily zone.

Just curious. Would anyone recommend the right kit to do this job?

Also, isn't there a way to clean/flush the inside of the engine?

Did you diagnose it ?
Seals often get pushed out by crankcase pressure, test the PCV system for proper vac.
Could be cam seals or crank seal.If you go in there it makes sense to swap both cam seals out, suggest you watch some videos.
You need cam locking tool.
You might also need a T45 to remove the serp belt.

T55 star bit drive, breaker bar helps or ratchet with cheater pipe for the exh cam bolt 88 ft lbs, access is limited .
I lifted my engine a bit by placing a wood pad under the oil sump and jacking it up to gain better access to exh cam center bolt.

If the engine is dual VVT, you need the big Torx and cam holding tool to get that fastener free

If it’s a non VVT seal, it’s much easier, just remove the belt and the solid pulley to access the cam seal

Corteco is a good brand here for the part.

I had a leaky oil filter cup looked a lot like that unless it was really really tight. Tried replacing the gasket no go. I ended up getting a new one solved the problem, never figured out how the old one was bad.

Finally finished and put everything back. Been busy with other things. Here are the work I did.
- Front crank seals, intake and exhaust side
- Water pump
- Timing belt, serpentine belt
- Timing belt tensioner
- PVC breather and oil trap
- Pulled down the oil pan and cleaned
- All o-rings in the area I worked

However, I connected the battery, started the car, and it sounded bad, like grinding teeth; I turned the car off right away.
What on earth could that have been?
