2001 V70XC - Sunroof Rattle

I removed the plastic accordion that fell apart as it was broken anyway and very brittle and then checked the bolts which were very loose. Now my sunroof moves without the noise of clicking/breaking plastic

NOTE: the plastic accordian is purely decorative, it slides back and forth with the sunroof, when it breaks the broken pieces catch and sound like the something is breaking.

I have the loose sunroof. I can feel it if I push it up against, and keeping it there would not rattle when going over a railroad crossing or manhole. So, found the four torx screws holding the glass and snug tightened each as it was loose. And yes, the accordion (modesty panel) has fallen apart while exposing the screws.

The rattle went away and now it is back. I can press it up to eliminate rattle when going over the railroad. Is there a permanent fix -- like use new screws?

Check the threads in the side channel pieces for the four torx screws that hold the glass on and also the torx screw threads, if the threads are in good shape use medium strength threadlocker and retighten the four screws. With my car the previous owner had stripped the threads in the side piece for one of the screws. I went ahead and installed helicoil inserts for all four screws, I haven't had any problems since. I think the screws are 5mm and installing the helicoil for all four screws didn't take long. I recall there's hardly any threads in the thin side pieces for these screws so they can be easily stripped by over tightening or by coming loose and the sunroom moving around. I think the torque spec is 5nm for these screws or 44 inch lbs, it's not much and why threadlocker is needed.

Double check the size but I think this is what I used for the thread repair.

You can also get a rattle if one of the two metal brace pieces glued to the sunroof front and back come partially unglued. The metal strip will rattle against the glass.
