Hi
I have a v70 2000 2.4 base model. I’m in CA and i need a smog test. Already failed on cylinder 4 (OBD11 reading) and catalytic converter. Took it to Volvo guy mechanic and he did spark plugs (they were just replaced in January) he also replaced cylinder. Leave mechanic, maybe a day or 2 later CEL back and for cylinder 4! Go back to mechanic and he was sick for 2.5 weeks which threw my repairs off and time ticking on the extension for my tags. He gave car back to me Friday and i went straight to DMV and go it a vehicle operating permit so i can do drive cycle. I got back to work today, which is delivery driving in my car, and CEL came back on, again OBD says cylinder 4. I need to reset CEL so I can drive as much as poss. I have 2 days, no more extensions, the was fixed twice, but CEL keeps coming back on???
So thats my question, how to reset CEL and also does anyone have any ideas what this could be or whatever you can think of cos I’m out of time. Appreciate any advice you can think of. BTW i did go to get a smog wink wink nudge nudge for $400 but he wouldn’t do it. And as much as I wanted to get my car in order i knew it was gonna be tight with time. Happy i had the work done, injectors were cleaned and cylinders replaced, all of them, but here i am begging for help. Thanks for listening
Time Sensitive Question. 2000 V70 CEL still on. Mechanic fixed already

What is the exact numeric code you're getting? "Cylinder 4" doesn't make sense on its own unless it's a misfire code. If that's the case, you need to check the ignition coil and fuel injector. Swap them (one at a time) to other cylinders and see if the issue follows.
"he also replaced cylinder" -- what does this mean?

Flying Volvo - sorry cant figure out how to reply to you directly. I had ignition coil and injectors replaces and/or cleaned. And the code is a misfire. I havre an OBD in my car. I actually cleared it just now so i guess ill drive around and get a drive cycle in. The mechanic said its running well and 50 miles will hopefully take care of that. CEL tends to come on but goes off its intermittent so I’m hoping it doesn’t return til i can get the smog.
Mechanic says he ended up replacing all the cylinders. I don’t know what that means besides putting new ones in but then I’m not sure if thats possible cos i don’t know what a cylinder looks like, spark plug type thing? I mean its literally had everything possible changed, sometimes twice. So I wonder if the check engine light is faulty if that’s a even possible. I appreciate you getting back to me

You need to move the parts to isolate if it’s a cylinder problem like a sticking valve , or a plug, coil, or fuel injector problem.
The fine to you for trying to falsify a smog test is $1000
The fine to the shop is higher , but it’s the jail time that the actually fear more

Phlipit you have people confused here. You can't replace a cylinder. That's the big hole empty space, or cylinder, that the piston goes up and down in. You can bore them out and make them bigger or resleave them, but all of that work is MAJOR engine work with engine out of the car and down time of weeks if not months. So no - your cylinders have not been replaced or even touched.
Please try and find out exactly what was done. It should be spelled out on your receipt. Are you maybe referring to the ignition coils on the cylinders ? If so, follow Flyingvolvo's advice.
