2006 XC90 lights turn on after car is off

Post by bfry »

Several months ago I noticed that the high beams would activate every time I put on the right blinker.

Ignored it.

Past several weeks, I have looked out in the driveway to see the lights on when the car is off, key out of ignition, etc.

One time the alarm was set with all the doors locked. The other time doors were unlocked, no alarm.

I had to start/stop the engine several times in each case to get them to turn off. And one time they turned back on as I was walking away and I had to start/stop the car several times again to get them off.

They were set in the auto position each time. One time was at night, one time during the day.

Luckily, they have not stayed on long enough without me noticing to run down the battery.

Any thoughts? Thank you.

Scan with Vida for codes related to the Steering wheel module, SWM

A hard reset by battery disconnect is worth a try in the meantime, synch things up.

Synch or SWM.

Hmmmmm.

Appreciate the response…

So it seems like when I take a closer look at what’s going on (my kid has been driving it) the blinker/brights “wand” is broke and barely hangin’ on by a thread so to speak. It has A LOT of play, but when I leave it as far forward as it will go there has not been another incident - and when I even slightly wiggle it, the brights flicker on and off randomly. So it seems if I replace the part it should be good - apologies for not more thoroughly checking it out before posting - thanks again.
