Headliner, spray paint or re-upholster?

Post by SomeGuy537 »

Hello guys, i'm gonna have to fix the headliner in my 850 eventually and i'm thinking about whether i should just peel off the fabric, scrape off the foam or whatever it is and then spray paint it or if i should re-upholster it with new fabric? My temporary solution was to cut out the sagging bits and brush off the foam that has basically turned into fine dust that fell down. Now i still have tiny pieces falling when flipping up and down the sunvisor which is annoying and maybe even toxic? (though i hope not). Anybody know what this stuff actually is? I reckon the removal process will be fairly simple since it's a wagon without a sunroof. If i should re-upholster, what type of adhesive should i use? Cheers!

Pull the backer out of the car. Clean all of the old fabric and foam off. Recover with new material.

Yeah put a new roofliner in. I did it on an S40 I had. Came out pretty good. Once in place it looked really nice.

We've been discussing this in another thread on replacing headliners. I'll be doing mine soon as well.

Perhaps you can find one intact in a junkyard and simply swap the entire headliner board. This seems true of the 2000 V70 because three I've seen recently which are still nearly perfect.
