Temperature gauge low

Normally it's just slightly over the 1/;2 mark but today, (after our first cold night last night if that means anything) it's the dashboard gauge is low, maybe 1/3rd of the way up. It did rise a bit after 20 minutes or so but still not what it always is. Is that a bad thermostat maybe? -- thank you

Most likely a Thermostat that opens too fast or is stuck open. It could be the Temperature sensor. Use a IR thermometer to measure the engine temperature and check it against the temperature gauge. 1/2 on the gauge is about 180℉ .
