Great American Mountain Rally Volvos

Post by foggydogg »

The gist of this story is about the authors Hudson - with a brief mention of Studebakers - but does touch lightly on the sole Volvo in the show:

Here is a bit longer brief on the 2018 event, written by the late organiser, who passed away shortly after the event.

And to tie the story together, my 122 has an almost identical paint job - but rattle-can - applied by the late WW II veteran
Leo Rizzo; I bought the car and a large pile of spares shortly before he passed.

Leo is mentioned in the footnotes of the second article; he not only ran the factory Jaguar rally team in '56, he actively raced a flock of Volvos through the years, as well as an Arnolt-Bristol (!). There was a picture in his study of him standing next to his XK120, in about two feet of snow, top down, chains on, wearing coveralls and a huge grin.
