Seeking advice on ownership

Post by Sanatarium »

Hello MVS!
Long time Volvo fan here seeking some input. I find myself in a bit of a pickle here, I must get rid of one of my two vehicles.

Vehicle 1: 2007 Lexus IS350, 114k
New tires, wheels, coilovers, intake and exhaust. I have it set up just right for daily driving at this time, I've had it about a year and a half. Picked up as a reliable fun daily. I really enjoy this car, it's RWD, hauls off the line, easily faster and more nimble than the 850, It looks great too! Very sexy. Only complaint is its a little small inside.

Vehicle 2: 1997 850 T-5 Wagon, 135k
K24, tune, injectors, meth injection, fuel pump, RIP kit, IC, KW coilovers, still on the autobox.
I've owned this one since 2014, bought from original owner in Oregon. Black leather interior is mint, it's in excellent condition for an 850 these days. Bought as a daily for a few years but I decided in 2019 to go through it and do some upgrades to OEM+ status with the K24 turbo and such. Nothing too extreme. I always intended to keep it as a weekend car forever but still driveable on the daily. If I did sell I am confident it would fetch a pretty decent price.

I must go down to one car at the moment, but eventually I do plan to own something less practical as a second car, something like a single turbo 2jz, or 300ZX etc. That may factor into which car goes today.

So my question to all of you, though biased to the Volvo, what would you do and why? This is not a decision I take lightly. Hoping for some perspective that might help.
Thanks!

The Volvo will continue to appreciate and be more exotic as time goes on while the Lexus will just be a forgotten foreign nice (I didn't say rice  I can say that though I'm Asian  ) but wannabe muscle car. The circle of owners is different also unlike Volvo lifers. Can see older and more mature with the Volvo but not older boys with a need to smoke tires. Again, Volvo For Life, of you.

An older white haired lady was in her facelift (not her face lift but aging naturally) black C30 on stretch of 2 lane road and my Son slowly passed her. She drove right back next to us smiled and waved :D .

Yeah that is a concern haha. I am a dad in my 30s, not into roasting tires anymore. Gotta give the Lexus some credit though it is a wonderful car to drive. But I do feel a bit juvenile at times....I hear you on the community too, I much prefer the Volvo gang.
Thanks for the insight.

Well let’s see.

A Lexus IS a rebadged Toyota sold at inflated prices to the American market

A Volvo is a grounds up designed luxury car

One will call to your heart, the other belongs with someone else.

We don’t mind if you put a LexusToyota in our classifieds.

This is a tough choice. Both look nice and it sounds like their are well maintained. Both have moderate mileage.
The choice may be similar to choosing a lifetime mate. Do you pick the sexy one or the classy one that will age well with you.

I vote no on a Lexus. Sorry, way too biased. One is a smart car, one is a flash car.
