Exhaust?

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

Exhaust?

Post by volvrow »

Hello all...
I seem to have this fancy idea that I want a downpipe and exhaust system for my 96' 850R. Is it really worth that kind of investment? I don't really want something that is louder than stock. Also, not sure how a "performance" exhaust would sound on an automatic. What kind of power increases would be expected? What manufacturers would you recommend? I guess I need to decide whether I am fine with the car as is (I love the way it drives now), or if I am going to make it too fast for my own good.

Thanks,
Michael

Everyone who has done this and are satisfied (price and performance) have had theirs made with mandrel bend pipes by good muffler shops. It will add 10HP to your car. www.volvospeed.com and then click into their "message board" and you'll find plenty who are modding their cars there- downpipes, chipped ECU's and exhausts, etc.

Iv'e got the TME exhaust from IPD. It is slightly louder than stock but not distracting. You only really hear a difference if you push hard on the throttle. It gave me about 10 bhp and increased my torque. Looks slick too and I put it on myself in an hour. Look at www.ipdusa.com , and wait till it goes on sale.

Unfortunatley I've noticed they go on sale in January. For one week they had 20% off everything! You can go to their website and subscribe to their newsletter . . . they will then send you sales etc . . . the mandrel bending is much cheaper . . . and you pretty much get the same results just make sure you going to a reputable exhaust shop

Thanks everyone for your tips and advice. Unfortuneatly at this time I really can't afford a nice exhaust like one from IPD. I will keep my eyes open for when they go on sale.

Try the claasified on the IPD website. Sometimes you can find someone parting out a car with the used upgrades. I installed an IPD mandrel bent unit on my 740GLE. It's only loud when you push it. It was an easy installation, approx 1 hour. As with all IPD mods I have used, it fit as advertised, all the parts were included, and the instructions were great.

Cheers

Ask around with the hotrodders. They will be able to tell you who does good work around where you live. I found a place here in Knoxville that will do a complete exhaust complete with downpipe, cat and muffler for $360.
I will be headed there in about 3 weeks. :D
