Naturally, this will happen just before forecasted precipitation. If you don’t have time to fix it properly (which most often is to replace/repair the siren/alarm module), or simply don’t care if the sunroof is operational & just need it closed, here is how to do it manually.
Remove plastic beauty cover from map lights. Start at the rearmost corners, it pops off pretty easily.
Remove the 2x 10mm screws here.
Disconnect negative terminal from battery. Wiggle the black plastic away from the ceiling. There are 4 retainers near the corners & 2 green electrical connectors on the left side. Let it dangle.
Next you’ll see the cover for the gear case. It is riveted on. Fear not! Drill rivets just enough to allow the cover to be removed. Take a sip of coffee and realize you should have draped an old sheet or tarp over the whole front seat area.
Remove cover to reveal worm & spur gears.
If sunroof is stuck open in vented position, spin spur gear counterclockwise. If sunroof is stuck fully or partially open, spin spur gear clockwise.
Snap the cover back on & reward yourself with a fresh cup of coffee that doesn’t have shavings in it
