Cigarette Lighter fuse location

Post by iamhives »

Almost embarrassed to ask such a stupid question but where is the fuse for the front cigarette lighter 12v power socket? I plugged something in, it worked for a second and then the power went out and I think it blew the fuse. Checked all of the fuses in the engine compartment, in the box next to the drivers side dash, in the rear fuse box but I think there is a 4th fuse box somewhere - is it under the drivers side dash or near the passenger glove box? Superficially looked in both these places but don't see it.. ?

I plugged in my slime tire inflater , a fuse blew but all fuses tested good.
Turned out the plug on the inflater has a small fuse....which I wrapped in ALum foil.
Unscrew the plug and take a look.
Plug, not socket.

In answer to my own question (!). It was the socket and there is a fuse box hidden down under the left of the steering column. Why there are 4 half filled (at best) fuse boxes I don't know. I guess it gave the designers flexibility to reduce the wiring but not sure why there are two within 1 ft of each other (to the left of the steering column).
