I like 780s, I like MotorWeek. The Venn diagram has 100% overlap.

Seriously, Motorweek was the only car show on back in the 80s. It was on Sunday mornings on the PBS channel. That and Car & Driver kept me in the loop.

Around 1980 or 81 mom had the 2XX version and the first time I drove it alone it ate the camshafts on both sides...    brought it home ticking up a storm! While her Volvo mechanic was removing them I was escorted to the car and shown the damaged parts coming out of the engine. He completely explained how it worked and how to care for a car. It made the mechanical portion of a car intrigue me. Later my Uncle Gary thought me how to do repairs and maintenance. So these Bentleyish roofed Volvos have always been among my favorites as well. The 780 also came with the turbo motor available in the early 90s as I recall. June

What was the root problem of the eaten camshafts?

Yea the turbo is the one I'll own someday... when time and money present themselves.

I was rather rough with it and mom skipped a few oil changes... it was only a couple of years old at the time. He knew exactly how I had drove it. My guess is those engines must have had oiling problems with the cams. After all I run the S80 2.9 really hard and at 215K/18 years camshafts are fine. Mother hated that car because it was a automatic transmission only car. I still think it was among the prettiest of Volvo's designs. June

It's not the old PRV from the 260's is it? That was not a good choice.

I came very very close to persuading my parents to buy a Volvo wagon as a teen. To allay their concerns of jumping from a Ford V8 to a 4 cylinder, I pushed hard for the V6 260 wagon. To this day I'm glad they didn't buy it and then say I told you so for years and years. They bought another Ford wagon.
