93 M56 in 96R?

93 M56 in 96R?

So, out of the blue, the AT in my 96 R blew up. So the manual swap is happening soon.

A friend of mine is parting out a 93 10V, and I could get the tranny, flex plate, pedal assembly and what else for free.

Can I make a 93 M56 work in a 96? I want to keep cruise control, ABS and AC.

I think to remember that there os a problem with the speed sensor between pre 95 and 96 up cars.

Make sure you get all the miscellaneous clutch bits like the master cylinder, fluid line, throwout bearing, etc.

They add up quick, and FCP won't even buy you dinner first.

Robert Spinner (posting as rspi here) is doing one right now in California.
I agree with the advice to get all the bits form the donor car, especially the trim pieces around the shifter - and of course, be careful, all that plastic is brittle.

I would probably get the whole parts car, he needs it gone. So all the small parts should be there.

Does anyone know if the 20V trannies will take the torque of of a Turbo?

Same M56 used in the T5 at 250 ft lbs or so.

Good to know. I'd imagine that as well, but some Germans said they are different. I doubt it, though.

yeah, totally. My 94 T5M is way more fun than the 96R. But this is about to change. While at it, I will replace the RMS and drop in a Quaife. It's now or never.
On the earlier M56s the clutch slave cylinder is accessible from outside, so no need to put a new one in, right?

Robert has one in his 850R wagon, and I don't think he is especially kind to the car. I predict you will be fine.
