Turn signal / directional relay?

I have an XC70 2004, which has been flashing "Left rear turn signal bulb failure" intermittently for a few weeks. Right signal works fine, I think stalk is working fine because it's still clicking. Checked fuses, replaced bulb, and bulbs are fine. Dad is an electrician and he checked sockets. He thinks it's the relay.

Does anyone know where the turn signal relay is located?

I've been trying to find a diagram like this but none of them show where the relay is for turn signal.

Does the rear left turn signal work?

Be careful with the assumption because ou get a voltage there the socket is good. My sons 06 XC70 had issues and the bulb was fine. I did however find the socket was burnt and cracked. No idea why or how. I had to do some plastic repairs to get it to work as the bulb was not seating correctly for both contact to work.

Should have added to make sure the grounds are good at the rear, but assumed as your date has electrical skills he would have done that. Not sure how it works but the Volvo electrical system checks for circuit voltages withing a range and if out with that range it assumes the bulb is out.
