PCV Job – Special Tools Needed?

wobble sockets

A few days ago MVS Forums member plumsmooth posted in the 850 Forum asking if there are special tools required for a PCV repair. Among the responses were tools such as a wobble socket extension and torx drivers of varying sizes.

…Got a genuine Volvo PCV kit.

I trying to gather my tools.

Seems I need a 10 inch extension. 1/4 inch? Swivel 10mm socket or wobble extension?

I have a 12mm ratchet wrench which will hopefully get the two lower manifold bolts?

Should I get a 1/4 inch torque wrench for the upper manifold bolts?

Anything else that anyone can think of that I might be missing, I would appreciate it.

The 12MM ratchet wrench for the oil tube and braket should work well. Keep track of what bolt goes where as the are different lengths.

Does the service kit you got have a gasket for the throttle body? Take plenty of pictures of your vacuum lines and hose routing on the rear of the engine.Top

Post by FLXC90 » Fri Sep 18, 2015 9:42 amyour spark plug cover bolts should be a T-25 IIRC

yes 1/4 drive long extension or socket and u-joint on long 3/8 extension for the bolt behind the P/S pump.

These are things that you will find many uses for, basic tool kit stuff, you will consider them “special” for a different reason later.

Fun watching people (and their cars) come along here!
