The tolerances built into the 2.3L engine you have are so far above what you will expose it to, even in spirited driving... you do not need to worry about it whatsoever. If you race it's another thing.

If you never drive it above 2500 RPM you may actually be doing a disservice to your engine. Above 4000 or 4500 RPM your valves (someone correct me here if this isn't accurate) turn, helping to prevent burnt crud from building up inside the combustion chamber. Another disservice would be to make short trips where the engine does not heat up to normal operating temperature. This will shorten the life of your catylitic converter.

The engine was designed by Porsche, if that tells you anything. And turbos made by Volvo for the last 8 years are very durable.
