I have 1996 850 turbo

If I am not driving above 2500 rpm, does that mean that the turbo does not kick-in. Which also means that additional pressurised air is not forced into the combustion chamber of engine and therefore the engine operates as the normally aspirated engine... under less severe conditions.. meaning that i am extending the life of the engine and not using much of the turbo... I will use turbo under emergency.. such as passing or when additional acceleration needed.. otherwise I will be much happy to preserve and extend the life of the engine.

Is any of this true... to any extend... ????????????????????
