I think it's true that Volvos come with a little more maintenance than your average Japanese car. But if it's really the car you like best, I don't think it'll be enough of a problem to sway your decision. I think that part of the bad rap includes the effect of high maintenance costs, so if you don't mind doing some maintenance yourself you can help moderate that a bit. The problems you list can be fixed for less than $100, but you should have a good mechanic go over the car and look for the hard to detect and expensive trouble areas. We have a '99 GLT sedan and love it so far. The power is good (as opposed to the non-turbo engine) and it is more comfortable than anything else we drove. Good luck!
