Re: Lower control arm and CV boot, should I bother?

Need to see where the grease is coming from. If boot is still good it may be coming from loose clamps, you may be able to tighten a little.

Re: Lower control arm and CV boot, should I bother?

Control arms/boots/CV axles are all not complicated. There's nothing to mess up, no tricky gotchas. Just go slow and ask questions here as you go. Post photos of items you have particular questions on.

Do research here - we've got all this stuff covered. How to, which products to buy, etc.

Re: Lower control arm and CV boot, should I bother?

CV boot, I installed Rein boots in my 1998 S70, at 3y/22k, I saw minor cracks. Stick to GKN boot!

Control arm: ball joint Lemforder. If whole arm, Volvo only.

Re: Lower control arm and CV boot, should I bother?

There's a great company I have used called Raxles, in GA I think. They have a very good reputation for rebuilding OEM axles with all OEM parts. It might be cheaper than changing a CV joint yourself. Check to see if they can get Volvo axles... https://www.raxles.com/noregrind.aspx I have to do contro...

Re: Lower control arm and CV boot, should I bother?

Outer CV needs a different type of grease. Inner one (tripod) can use the grease from the GKN rebuild kit, however don't use it in outer joint. I don't remember what exact grease does the outer require. For inner joint you better get a GKN grease as well. I destroyed two axles by using a very expens...

Re: Lower control arm and CV boot, should I bother?

You can slack the clamp, inject grease with a syringe, rotate the clamp at needed angle and re-tighten it. However they tend to stretch over time and need to be replaced. Have both my 2 and 3 y.o. Volvo and GKN axles spitting small amounts of grease, the clamps are fully tightened, can't do more.

Re: Control arm - Is there a safe way to force it?

I see what you mean. The end link actually keeps the strut from being aligned - or easy to align, it forces it to rotate like in the picture So it helps to detach the link, however with the link detached the strut will not move upwards - rather it may even move lower than it's now, because when the ...

Re: Control arm - Is there a safe way to force it?

Just careful not to let the spindle hung free and pull on the CV joint - the outer CV joint may dismantle inside and be tricky to be put back in place

I ground the nut off the link when Mine got stuck. It was ugly
