Re: Coolant loss and overheating.

I would suspect a failing thermostat based on the initial symptoms. Thermostats typically fail open and do not cause overheating (rather, the opposite). You can test this theory with a cheap IR temp gun if you have one (or want an excuse to buy one - they are quite cheap these days, and fun to play ...

Re: Long term results for 2001 V70 auto transmission drain and fill

Good to hear you are happy w/your results. Have you done anything to address the underlying issue - valve body and solenoid wear, varnish, and seal degradation? That would be helpful going forward, I think. A fresh fill starting to shift oddly that quickly is indicative of something a little more go...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?

I was motivated by the BLO success, to go further. Also, the biggest “wagon” festival in the world is a few miles away in six or seven weeks. Might as well show up clean and pretty. LoL, wrote this up but it was dumped by the forum as normal. 1C630114-42DD-46BA-885B-DFA763BD9945.jpeg 6723DBFA-9D28-4...

Re: Can You Mix Rotors? Drill/Slotted Front with Solid Rear

You can do that.

I believe these are 302mm diameter for R models, etc. Have you modified your brackets for that and have 16” or larger wheels? That spec indicates 302mm, and your car came stock with 280mm rotors. (I also don’t think of it as much of a bargain, tbh).

Re: Can You Mix Rotors? Drill/Slotted Front with Solid Rear

Oh man thank you for that info! I haven't pulled off the old rotors and didn't realize the size difference. Clearly a newbie here. I appreciate the catch and the feedback on the parts. I think I will just stay all OEM on rotors and pads. It seems like FCP has better all around prices on VOLVO Rotor...

Re: Can You Mix Rotors? Drill/Slotted Front with Solid Rear

That’s terribly advice above. High quality braided lines for these cars are easily available, affordably. It’s 2024, not 2002. You can tell when lines are about to fail the same way - you feel it. Unless you are jacking the car up weekly to visual inspections (who the heck is doing that)? Nonsense. ...

Re: Right side outer CV joint issue

Maybe this helps a bit: A) if the inner is not shredded, and you don’t want to deal immediately, you can run a while with saran wrap and zip ties to keep it from flinging grease. Sounds ghetto, but honestly it works. B) If the inner is NOT trilobal on the can (the can is smooth all the way around, n...
