It won’t hurt anything, just make sure it slides on and off the bevel gear splines. If it binds, file the collar sleeve splines with a small triangular profile file so it slides on easy, also check the outside machined surface of the colllar and make sure you didn’t scratch it where the seal rides.

My opinion: Clean up the slight damage with a small file. Assure the parts slide together OK. There is not enough damage here to worry about.

are the crank shaft seals and/or oil pump seals known to go bad pretty easy? because it happened out of no where. "Easy" is perhaps a matter of interpretation, it's certainly not uncommon right now with our cars hitting two decades. Since you did your cam seals, oil around your belt housi...

Don't feel badly, no face palm required, much of the market is set up to get us to buy cheaper, crap parts. Live and learn, just figure out how to pony up for the quality timing parts and move on.
