Re: Windshield wiper skipping
Skipping as in lifting off the glass or shuddering in one direction? If the problem is shuddering in one direction: Wiper arms sometimes get twisted and the wiper arm end is not square with windshield surface. This makes the wiper have an angle to glass and the wiper blade can't flip to the side whe...

Re: The classic ticking
Is it possible that you have a small exhaust leak? This can sometimes behave like you are describing where it is not noticeable at higher revs but comes back on deceleration. Check around the manifold for black soot stains, use a mirror to look at the bottom side from the top of the engine. The inje...

Re: The classic ticking
What oil do you use on the car? Do you use a filter with a non-return valve like the OE Volvo or Mann?
Have the oil pan 'o' rings ever been done?

Re: The classic ticking
The few 850ies I heard with ticking were hydraulic lifters. My 850 also has it, if the engine was sitting long, 1 lifter will stick and tick, but it usually goes away once it warms up or has been driven regularly. I would recommend to use engie oil flush before the change and maybe also additional a...

Re: The classic ticking
As Scott 850 has so aptly pointed out (more than once) the oil pan pick up tube O rings are highly suspect. Maybe you can check oil pressure? Let's assume we are talking about lifter tick and not some other origin noise. Classic symptoms are goes away with spirited driving (your oil pressure increas...

Re: Why do undamaged P80s get junked?
A couple of neighbors make fun of me and my old Volvos, while they drive shiny appliances. I want to say, Good Luck with your generic POS, while I continue to use this nice old machine with some character.

Re: '00 S70 GLT - SMI power steering rack tear down
My rebuild plan is to remove the right outer and inner tie rods, remove the right end cap by removing the wire, then replace the right seal. Like a cam shaft seal, I may have to puncture the seal with a screw to remove it. I don't plan to remove the pinion or anything else. I will try to do all of t...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?
Saw the pic, immediately thought it was an epic fuel leak. There's your "no start" right there. Good luck with it. If you mean the giant puddle, it's my luck to end up in a couple inches deep of muddy water outside someones junkyard, if you mean the film on the mud, from where it was comi...
