Re: 850R complete engine rebuild + some questions

Direct replacement w/o mods are the R clutch and the Spec clutches (pricey and they have mixed reviews).
There might be something different. Check out europeantuning.nl (switch language settings to English and suddenly it all makes sense), they might have something besides the R and Spec clutches

Re: 850R complete engine rebuild + some questions

The R clutch fits the M56 as well, it just handles more torque. The best overall source for 850s is skandix.de. They have alot of Volvo parts. My local Volvo dealer orders at Skandix because he gets OE Volvo parts cheaper there than through Volvo Austria. Skandix has some hopups, but mainly OE or af...

Re: 850R complete engine rebuild + some questions

I've also heard changing the pressure plate can help the 850R clutch take more torque. Sachs 707 plate and Audi S2 plate get mentionned quite often, apparently can get the 850R clutch to 580Nm but flywheel needs to be modified https://www.vivaperformance.com/sachs-707-pressure-plate/ I can vouch for...

Re: 850R complete engine rebuild + some questions

Hey, welcome to another Volvo enthusiast. Your R looks very nice. I'm thinking of going the standalone ECU way anyways I would very much like to hear of your experience to make it work if you do it. For now I will leave my car as is (I can still run the stock ecu for 'MOT" or one with tune), bu...

Re: 850 R Oil cooler system upgrade (aftermarket)

I did the RN oil pan swap on my 850. There are some changes that need to be made to the water pipe on the back of the engine, and some fiddling with turbo coolant/oil hoses. I wouldn't be worried about the oil cooler inside of the radiator failing. It's kind of a rarity, and even less so if you just...

Re: 850 R Oil cooler system upgrade (aftermarket)

I have some stuff on my project thread over on SwedeSpeed. I'd have to dig back on what I actually used. A suggestion from Will on another project over there. 00-01 water tree and lines. This will be compatible with your N block oil squirter ports without requiring custom bending any lines. Any RN p...

Re: 850 R Oil cooler system upgrade (aftermarket)

Hey everyone, since my car is currently taken apart as the engine is being rebuilt, I was thinking of upgrading the stock oil cooler system. I've seen Robert DIY finding out it simply isn't effective, besides, I need to replace both intake and out-take hoses anyway, as they're done. My biggest conc...

Re: 850 R Oil cooler system upgrade (aftermarket)

I have some stuff on my project thread over on SwedeSpeed. I'd have to dig back on what I actually used. I don't remember which water pipe I used, but I know I did need to bend some of the lines around the oil squirter ports on mine. I also swapped a 16T, but it also wasn't the one suggested above ...

Re: 850 R Oil cooler system upgrade (aftermarket)

* The main cooling medium in the car is the radiator coolant. If you lower the temp or allow for faster cooling it will lower the oil temp with less fluctuation in temp also. Our 03 Honda Odyssey, due to the cheap easily stripped threads on the new radiator, I opted for a complete bypass directly in...
