Re: 98 S70 - starts up then dies immediately

Ooooof, you guys are off Fuel pump relay possible, but a bad ECT, like what I have in Kat right now, will do exactly this. When cold, you aren’t getting that rich injection pulse yo get you started. Just a few seconds of running, like 10, and it’s hot enough to run great. It’s a $50 part , we can gu...

Re: 98 S70 - starts up then dies immediately

All turbos P80 Volvos from 1994-2000 (850's and S/V/C70's) have intercoolers. They are sandwiched with the radiator and just in front of it. If you look at the first picture in this thread, at the bottom right of the picture you see a thick black pipe about 3" in diameter coming out from under ...

Re: 98 S70 - starts up then dies immediately [ look over help needed, Indianapolis]

It kind of does sound like an ECT issue. Might also be a FP relay (which could be the buzzing you hear, as it's located right in front of the driver in the cowl) I don't know of any mechanics, as I do all of my own work, but where in Indy are you? I might be able to lend a hand, or at least put eyes...

Re: 98 S70 - starts up then dies immediately [ look over help needed, Indianapolis]

You need a T25 Torx driver or driver and bit to remove the 4 screws. Careful not to lose the screws. Removing the weather strip just in front of the fuse box (it just pulls off) makes access a little easier. https://www.homedepot.com/p/TEKTON-T25-Torx-High-Torque-Screwdriver-Chrome-DHT31250/32313043...

Re: I think I’m gonna buy this… unless you guys strongly disapprove

Hey Kesha-

That '97 GLT looks to be a solid choice, and is going to be very close to your '98 S70. It's a slightly different turbo/engine set-up, but the combo in the GLT has a bit more low-end grunt. My wife's car is a '97 GLT wagon.

That '06 is going to be more complicated to deal with, IMO.

Re: I’ve almost given up, but then I saw this one..

I'd say that it looks very promising, just have a mechanic look at it! Will probably need a good bit of basic maintenance and troubleshooting but you are getting it from the original owner.

Re: I’ve almost given up, but then I saw this one..

A garage kept T5 from the original owner is a good find. I paid almost that much for a one owner T5 (albeit a manual) at a risky local auto auction. I hope it includes service records (from the dealership?) and the original window sticker would be a nice bonus. How much do feel like doing your own w...

Re: I’ve almost given up, but then I saw this one..

Hopefully the deal works out.

I can take a look at it if you want to bring it by. I can pull codes too.
