I know I’ve bugged you guys about several cars now and had almost given up on finding another Volvo(time is of the essence as I’m carless due to an accident), but this just posted today… it’s my exact old car except one year newer and a different color!’I’m guessing the oil leak is not a good sign though? But only 160k miles! If it was as well cared for as this guy says, surely it’s in good condition?

I’ve almost given up, but then I saw this one..

Oil leaks are hard to comment on without actually seeing them. Could be minor though.
This part is nice and vague
"Several indicator lights on dash are lit which I am told are sensor codes."
Checking codes on it and seeing what lights are ACTUALLY lit up is the only way to really be sure what's going on.
Door lock actuators are a minor inconvenience,
It looks nice enough though and probably not driven hard in its life.

It is a 98 which is a good thing on electrical issues as there is no ETM. Car looks really nice and is a T5 which is a bonus.
As Chuck has said, without knowing what the warning lights or codes are it is hard to comment. Oil leak also as per Chuck, it could be nothing too bad or a big issue depending where it is.
If you can get any more info on these then you may have the basis of a nice point to start and improve over time.
Neil.

So he says that the car is his parents, and that they are in their 80’s and are starting to have a hard time getting in and out of the car, which I believe because they ARE low to the ground. He said, If it weren’t for that his parents would keep the car. He also said they took the car to a mechanic to fix the oil leak but the mechanic said he didn’t have the part, which the guy said he found hard to believe. He said the lights ARE just sensors and they have been checked with the computer. I just reiterated a few of my questions to him about the oil leak and the sensors, mainly asking if they affect the cars ability to be driven daily as soon as I were to by it. I’m waiting to hear back from him and barring anything bad news I think I’m probably going to buy it. Chuck, would you be able to come give it a once over at some point so I know if there’s anything pressing I need to get it to a mechanic for? I have friends that Can check it out for me but I’d feel better having it be someone who knows Volvos. If there’s something wrong with it, I can get one of them to fix it, I just don’t trust them to be the ones to do the inspection because they might not know what specifically to look for.

If you get it and want to bring it by, I can take a look at it.
My personal preference is to avoid the 99-00 cars.

Here's the whole thing:
I'd move mountains to get those codes, the actual numbers.Seller's Description
Very clean and always garaged. Never in accident, non smoker. Owned by seniors for past 23 years. Every option including cold weather pkg, heated leather seats, wipers on headlights, tinted windows, sunroof. 2.3 liter 5 cylinder with high pressure turbocharger. This car handles great and is very quick. Has slight oil leak coming from turbo area. Several indicator lights on dash are lit which I am told are sensor codes. Electric door locks dont work on a couple of the doors.

This is exactly why my dad drives a CUV not a sedan. He had a '99 S80 T6, and then some crap (new) Hundai, now a Ford Escape.Keshavsmith wrote: ↑10 Apr 2023, 17:51 So he says that the car is his parents, and that they are in their 80’s and are starting to have a hard time getting in and out of the car, which I believe because they ARE low to the ground.

He said they are sensor codes. I’m guessing O2 and maybe the evap thing? ABS obviously is one of them. He says they still drive it everyday. I honestly feel like it’s kismet, because I spent all day at car dealerships and was about to finance a Toyota Highlander this afternoon but they needed paycheck stubs which I didn’t have so I’m supposed to go back in the morning and finish the deal. Then I get home this evening and decide to check marketplace one last time and there it was… I don’t want a Toyota Highlander. I want my old car back. And this is almost the exact same one.
I know male brains will likely not agree with any of this logic but there it is, nonetheless. Ha.
