Fix your fancy gas cap gasket for $7
So I went to get my car smogged the other day and they told me that I needed a new gas cap. Why? It appears that there were cracks in the gasket and they said it wouldn't seal correctly, thus letting fumes escape. I called Volvo to get a price on a gasket. Well of course they don't sell that part, o...

98 V70 T5 Power Seat Switch is Malfunctioning
So I have been dealing with a stuck power seat on the passenger side. The front part of the seat was stuck on the full high position. The motors seemed to be ok, and the seat was working in all other directions. So I figured that the power seat microswitch must be malfunctioning. Before buying a new...

Re: Fixing your flip /switchblade key - pics and advice
@theblues - the exact same procedure I described above will work. You'll have to get a new key blade cut, but that's not the expensive part. I have seen blank blades on eBay. What costs is the transponder and the programming required. Dealers will get you on that. It's been over a year since I fixe...

Re: 300,000 Thank Yous
Hey, if you write to Volvo they will give you a badge for your car! It's called the Volvo Heritage Club. I got one when our car crested 200,000 miles. My daughter drives it now and it's got 260K miles. So a while to go before catching up with you, but we are determined! Here's a quick picture. Herit...

Mileage is Only a Number
I purchased our family 1998 V70 new when my daughter was born. It is now her first car. What does a 263,281 mile car look like? It's been to the moon (another thread for an earlier generation car exists on this site)! Well, I refreshed it last month. Repaired and refinished all the relevant parts in...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?
Hey, that loud bang at every speed bump. I'd look at the top mount for the rear shock. Mine was doing the same thing and to my chagrin, I discovered that the mount had completely sheared. It was only a $40 part and less than an hours work to replace.

Re: Fix a Volvo flip/switchblade key - DIY, pics and advice
Wow, it's 2021. I still have this car and the keyblade fix is still holding up. So, I think a 10+ year run qualifies this as a permanent fix.

Re: 1999 Volvo S70 Rear Bump Stops.
My car is a 1998 and I just did the bump stops. It was surprisingly easy. First, here is what I saw when I went under the car to do some brake work. The stop had fallen and was just banging around the spring. Bad stops.png The new stop is easy to install once you get the spring off. Loosen the rear ...

Re: Help Locating/Stopping an Oil Leak
I have been chasing an oil leak for a long time like you. I changed the turbo seals, dipstick seal and I was still getting oil dripping down the front of the engine and blowing back all over the pan. The last culprit was the PCV system, but I was avoiding it since it's a time consuming job. Finally ...
