Re: Emission system won't reset 98 V70 X/C AWD
Chai, can you post the code you are getting? I know you said it wouldn’t reset, that implies there are codes that are still there. Emissions evap systems leak is usually a P0455. I am in the Santa Cruz area and have a 98 V70 with close to 280k miles. I’ve been doing most of the maintenance myself bu...

Boroscope Pictures of Cylinder 1 and valve
So I realized that I have a boroscope I hardly use. Could my no compression issue be due to a bad piston? Well, we will know for sure when we remove the head, but until then I can check it out with this nifty tool. Here's what I saw. Ignore the date stamp, it's not set correctly. This was 2 days ago...

Re: No compression on 1 - burnt valve?
Lots of work. I would also check the injectors, we don't know if they are the reason for it, but it won't hurt and is sensible imo. Maybe someone offers cleaning, or you can get refurbished ones... You an also try to clean them by yourself, build something to actuate the injector and spry carb/inta...

98 V70 T5 Head Rebuild Done!
So I finally completed the job and fired up the car! It's running good as new, but it wasn't without a few incidents. It took me a lot longer than anticipated because I did a lot of things on top of the rebuild. Here's a picture just before putting the cam cover back on. The gasket material is appli...

Re: No compression on 1 - burnt valve?
I went through the same thing, but with far more hiccups. I have the combined Catalytic convert/Exhaust Manifold, it's a chonky piece and couldn't fit behind the now installed head. Obviously I should've have put it in BEFORE the cylinder head. I then had to remove the driveshaft to get it from dow...

Awesome Tech Tips Document
I came across this official looking document that has some great information about my ECC unit and other things about our cars as well. https://automotivetechinfo.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Volvo-TechTips-Summer-2018.pdf It confirms that I only have 4 dampers. It also states a procedure to auto ...

Coolant leak was just a loose clamp
I was re-reading this thread and realized I never closed the loop on the coolant issue. I’m happy to report that my coolant leak was just a loose clamp. It’s been well over a year. I am back in Tahoe again with the family in the red brick. The car now has over 282,000 miles and running like a champ....

Re: No compression on 1 - burnt valve?
The Red Brick has 285,335 miles on it now. The P0455 was a bad purge valve. It was annoying that I took the car for diagnostics and they proclaimed my purge valve good. Sure it was “clicking” when energized, but it wasn’t sealing. I took it off to bench test and realized what was going on immediatel...
