Re: ECC UNIT WILL NOT COME OUT, 1996 850 Turbo

There is also a white pin on each side of the ECC unit that slots into a hole in the face of the opening.

Re: Any tips to get lower oil line off the radiator?

Tricky! It should pull directly out, but the rings and spacers are probably preventing it from releasing.
If you have a pair of panel clip pliers, those might allow you to get it out.

Re: Any tips to get lower oil line off the radiator?

Good luck. It would be a pain to have to replace the radiator too just because of a stuck engine oil cooler hose.
I removed the oil thermostat a few years ago and I remember it took me a long time to get the rectangular o-ring to stay put in the groove so I could tighten up the two bolts.

Re: Tools: What torque wrench to buy

I realize I'm reviving an old thread, but since it mentions torque wrenches, Harbor Freight and calibrations I thought it would fit in OK. I recently got a Quinn digital torque adapter which records peak torque and used it to test out my 3/8" and 1/2" drive HF torque wrenches that I've had...

Engine and Transmission Technical Information documents

I noticed we have a copy here on MVS of this document from Volvo on 850 Engine Technical Information: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/downloads/850GLT-EngineTechInfo.pdf It's an interesting read, well worth the time for those who like to study up on the development of the car. The document mention...

Re: 93 850 the dreaded warm start problems, cranks but no start

Good luck. It sounds like you have checked a lot of things and already replaced a lot of the parts that are the "usual suspects". As for the coil, one check would be to disconnect the wires and measure the resistance of the low and high sides during the time that the car will not start. Ac...

Re: "TURBO" air box cover.

I have a '97 GLT (turbo charged, but with a plain airbox) and I switched the cover for a "turbo" cover from the junkyard. It was under $10 at the junkyard if I recall correctly. I'm glad I put it on... It made no real difference because it's the same car, and drives the same, but now it sa...

Re: 96 850R Issue Starting

The root cause in your situation may be different, but on my car the connection between the wire and the terminal on the positive battery cable was corroded. It caused intermittent no-cranks especially when hot. You can check if this is happening on your car by doing the voltage drop test between th...

Re: Timing, 96 850 turbo

In addition to the above great resources, I'd add this write-up by cn90:

It's helpful in this situation because it shows a couple of the different methods used to mark the gear:

Re: ...try, try again.

Looks attractive to me, as long as the transmission is solid. The black interior is not as good for comfort down south, but I put up with a black leather 240 in central Texas for 5 years and it wasn't too bad... you just always had to park in the shade or else suffer.
