Re: License plate bracket nuts—best metal?
Over the years, I have learned that: - The Volvo factory nut is regular steel and it will rust with time, especially in the midwest with salt. - It can seize with time if antiseize is not used. Some people break the stud off while removing the nut. So, I have been using these M6 x 1.0 stainless stee...

Re: Volvo Findings! (What have you found on Craigslist?)
98's are desirable because of the lack of ETM trouble, but that's just me. This seems to be the common reasoning, but I think the ETM thing is blown out of proportion. Replace it once, be done. The 2014 contactless one available in eBay for $150 has been the elixir from the Swedish Gods While the -...

Re: 850R No Spark
My 850 once decided it'd be hilarious to have it's main fuel system relay not work. It's the big grey one in the top radiator shroud. I replaced it with a new Volvo part (after I figured it out - to be safe) and the problem went away pretty much forever. Here's my original solution post: "Actua...

Re: '97 Volvo 850 GLT: Fan Relay reliability advice and opinions sought (3545803, 1398845)... getting ready for trip
I don’t recall any failure here. If you want some , or other parts for a spares box to return later, pm me though.
I pooched those two thin gauge yellow wires on my T5, be careful with those

The "803" relay is your main FI system relay.
I haven't seen one fail, but the connectors do suffer the same degradation that all of the connectors in the engine bay of these cars seem to.

Re: 1998 Volvo V70 Emissions Code P0442 - minor leak
What about the J hose. It can also throwsa P0442. My 3 1998/99s have needed replacements. The cracks are not visible until you remove the hose. Then you will see multiple cracks running lengthwise, each about an inch long. Last one I did had at least 3 if not 5 cracks. Here is a reference on MVS for...

Re: P80 850 rear bumper bracket bolts (982831, M10x130mm)
This was a gnarly fight. The basic technique was hot/cold cycling with liberal application of CRC Freeze Off after every heating.. I used a pneumatic die grinder with a really crappy harbor freight grinding point that's terrible for actual grinding, but pretty good at heating up the bolt it's applie...

Re: Possible bad battery or connections?
Car has been starting and running fine now outside of other previous issues. I had been charging and then disconnecting the battery whenever I left the car, and after work broke the pos terminal nut. Got home with locking jaw pliers. Replaced the terminal bolts with brass bolts, temporarily until I...
