Validity yes. Premature failure of catalytic converter by doing this, also yes.
It's pretty crucial to report miles on the car as O2 sensors that are inaccurate (particularly pre-cat) can cause these codes. Also have O2 sensors been replaced in service history?

Re: swapping inline 5 cylinder engines
I did EXACTLY that and retained the 1999 head from a non turbo; mine had no CVVT in the 1999 head; most non turbo 1999s had no CVVT

Re: The SRS Codes that Will NOT Die
In Vida go to Diagnostics-Vehicle Communication-Network. Find the SRS module and click on it. Make sure it is green and reports to the network. It will show two software part numbers. Another module from the same model year SHOULD have the same numbers. Get a used one from another car. SRS modules a...

Re: Dim not responding 2005 V70 2.4 NA
So when you say DIM is not responding you're just referring to the service reset?
It lights up and has message display? Speedo/tacho operational?
Is it off the network only after attempting a service reset then comes back to life?

Re: Changed spark plugs, now getting new misfires
Last week a 2004 XC70 rolled in with a blown fuse and shorted coil pack wiring. I can't recall the fuse number but it was one of the tiny ones under the hood and it was 20A. That loom was so fused on cylinder 2 that the coil pack had overheated and melted. Most of the split tubing was in reasonable ...

Re: Dim not responding 2005 V70 2.4 NA
I don't think I've ever seen so many modules off the Network yet so few fault codes.
This IS an odd one. Canbus is the biggest suspect here. It wouldn't hurt to use a test lamp of at least 20W (don't use a multimeter as this doesn't draw enough current) to check for voltage at fuses.

Re: "Brake Failure" P0571 and P0504
The brake pedal position sensor is essentially the same unit as fitted to the 850s and there was a write-up here on MVS on how to repair it. The casing is a little difficult to pry open but once done there is a small contact board at the top that needs to be re-soldered.

Re: New to Volvos some advice?
Welcome to MVS. Looks like you're headed in the right direction. Battery cables are a known issue on that year model. You have the dreaded electronic throttle on that car. Some of them have a distorted magnet causing a short with the armature windings but this will eventually blow the throttle fuse ...

Re: Volvo s60 P/N 8644345 2001 non-turbo ETM pictures
I should have answered this 9 months ago but here goes: Sensor 1 is the 5 pin side of the throttle. Sometimes the board receives input from 2 very good contact sensors (or a Sacer Hall sensor) yet fails to process one of the signals into a definable throttle angle. In this case it will report 108 de...
