Re: Starting XC60 after airbag deployment

Battery reset would disconnecting the ground lead and touching it to the pos post of battery (but not on a hybrid without first doing some other checks) to drain the capacitors so the control modules do go to complete inactivity. If the crash sensor module is still supplied some current by the capac...

Re: Will this work to bypass the chip keys?

The metal cut keys with chips use the same chip that gets placed in your dog. It is literally the size of a grain of rice. The antenna gets pulsed with current to make magnetic pulses and the pulses are picked up by a winding of wire in the chip and power the chip to broadcast a radio signal. The pa...

Re: XC90 Alternator Pulley Replacement - $3000?

There is a one way clutch on the alternator that reduces shock at lower engine speeds where each engine rotation has some significant speed changes. The alternator is driven through a rubber cuff connected to the driving cog on the engine. The intake manifold is removed to get to the alternator for ...

Re: Anyone use a cordless ratchet for your maintenance?

Milwaukee M12 1/4 and 3/8 ratchets are FANTASTIC! the 2.0 amp batteries last a full day of use. Many come with 1.5A and that battery is good for most people for a day's use. The charge time is short so the small batteries will fully charge during a 30 minute lunch break.

Re: Extremely frustrated with CEL post alternator rebuild

P1 turbo uses a check valve on the turbo inlet neck for the crankcase vent. That check valve is supposed to be sucked closed idling and when off idle and boost builds the check valve for intake closes and this one opens to let vapors go through turbo and intercooler and back through throttle. If the...

Re: 2004 V70, S60 GKN OUTER CV boot is now Plastic!

Plastic boots have outlived the rubber on all the vehicle brands I work on that use them. I have never seen a road debris damaged plastic boot but have replaced dowens of rubber ones with wire caught in them.

Re: Recharging A/C... fan not coming on

Something is screwy with these cans. I use 30# cylinders at shop but I was at my sister's a few hundred miles from home and topped up her vehicle with a Wal-Mart can with gauge hose affair and had no problems with it. On P80 with cycling clutch switch system the compressor will cycle rapidly until t...

Re: Volvo XC 90, 2008, 3.2, Problem with A/C turning on

new compressor or used compressor? The most common reason for your symptoms on that engine is the solenoid stuck into compressor is worn and binding. Once the compressor gets hot the expansion releases the bind of the solenoid and it works until car is parked and cools down. The solenoid is availabl...

Re: Rusted Flange Screws 2007 V70 2.5t

You can get them at a good hardware. Take out one of each location and measure from under head to end of threads, in mm.
A wrecker that allows you to harvest those parts off severely crashed unuseable parts of cars is also a good source.

Re: AC Compressor Help (I'm stuck) - '97 960

The item on condenser is the high pressure sensor, 5v, ground, and signal to ECM of .4 to 4.2V, increases with higher pressure. It would not blow a fuse, the ECM will shut down the 5V supply if shorted. The pressostat is on the accumulator by firewall on passenger side but it interrupts a compressor...
