Re: Repeated blower motor resistor failures

If the resistor fails, three things can cause it: 1. rust rots through wire (not the issue is it is pristine when removed) 2. Blower air inlet is obstructed or the evaporator is plugged with debris. If it is these things then it would not have good air volume when on HIGH. The low airflow lets the t...

Re: Air conditioner only (somewhat) works at highway speeds

The compressor on that car is a variable displacement version. The compressor has an electric valve on the side that varies output of compressor. At highways speeds with engine at higher speed and lots of condenser airflow it will cool a little bit even if it is stuck on its low output position. If ...

Re: 2008 XC90 V8 AC problems

All V8 XC90s have variable displacement compressors. There is a solenoid on the compressor to control the displacement that is operated by the ECM. The solenoids do fail and the compressor can have no pumping or less than full pumping when the solenoid binds and does regulated pressure in compressor...

Re: XC90 V8 Intermittent fuel pressure cutout

Sorry I didn't see this one earlier. I applaud all the hard work and methodical troubleshooting and documentation. This issue is not too uncommon when FP is replaced. Dirt gets into tank and the dirt/silt plugs the membrane filter on bottom of pumps in the fuel pump cup. Letting the car sit lets the...

Re: Advice on what year and model to buy (wagon)

CEM water intrusion is an 05 up issue for P2. Really just 05 and 06 as they did some modes to improve sealing. The change for 05 had the top of CEM coming through the opening under cowl cover. Ice forming and then thawing at the opening due to interior heat was a major cause. The 04 down P2 CEM was ...

Re: 08 3.2 AWD Cransk but no start (Video included)

Time to pull a coil and then a spark plug. You will see if it is flooded by plug inspection and then you can put the plug in coil and set the thread end of plug o some bare metal of cylinder head and crank it over to see if you have spark. Fuel rail has a test port on passenger end but it is a femal...

Re: Seems torque converter gone . 1998 V90

Denver has a Transtar Industries location. They are a huge auto trans parts company and will have a TC for that gearbox. It will be remaufactured but their stuff is good and is backed. Trans shops use them. There may be other places like that near you but I am familiar with that company.

Re: Alternative Transmission?

The RH and LH thing: the HVAC is the biggest thing and on many Volvo models over the years the HVAC was centered and would work RH and LH. All the early ones through the 240s had the centered versions. Later ones had a mirror image HVAC case to deal with it. On most the change is only the blower par...

Re: Transponder key and immobilizer theory

If the replacement ECM does not have the Immo feature enabled then you are good. The Immo is a communication that acknowledges the code of the Immo control unit inside car is the approved one and the Immo then communicates that the key is an approved key (Read by the antenna send and receive activit...
