Re: Mechanical Tensioner needle will not move
I had a nightmare with a mechanical tensioner when swapping a timing belt on my long gone 98 V70XC. Kit was bought from IPD. Part was an INA part. I spent about 5 hours trying to get the damn thing to align and it kept bending the bracket on the tensioner. I went to speak to Volvo parts to compare w...

Re: Mechanical Tensioner needle will not move
Also make sure it isn't too tight while attempting to adjust it. I've seen people tighten it before adjusting the tension, make sure you aren't doing this.

Re: Mechanical Tensioner needle will not move
That is within the realm of "Fairly Normal". There is a fuzz more modulation on the needle than I normally see but not enough to get me concerned. The needle dances around on all of them.

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)
Did the heater core junction box bypass today on the R. Just have to wrap some things up in the morning, but I've really happy with how it turned out! I used 5/8" silicone heater hose and ordered some ABA hose clamps from eEuro (yes, there's a BIG difference between these and the cheap auto sto...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)
If it’s running well, Just keep running it paying attention to the beast on coolant and oil. Keep your foot light and use the gas money saved for the next step It’s doesn’t really matter if it’s rings or valves, top of the engine comes off to sort out. I’ve run many low compression cars as daily dri...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)
Thank you for the response, and I hope you are right! I was watching a Robert Spinner video (Robert DIY), where he recommends trying something less "aggressive" first, like Lucas Oil. So I may go that route. It would be nice if it's just a stuck ring vs. a burnt valve (I hear those are qu...

Re: Parking Brake Failure
I recommend evaluating the entire parking brake system (if you've never done so). I believe there are instructions by the user cn90 on the forum, so those will help you. Or, buy the British Haynes S70/V70/C70 manual which explains this all quite well. Taking the time to learn and master the parking ...

Some people just yank the handle for all it's worth hard and fast so anything could have happened. Need to remove the cover and check the cable at the handle then work your way back.

Re: Parking Brake Failure
Your balancer bar can be positioned differently. It is there to take up tolerances in manufactures length of the cabled and stretch that will occur. Maybe one has been replaced at a different time and so has stretched less? Jack the car up on each side and pull on the handbrake lever and check it lo...
