Re: 2002 V70 (Timing belt replacement)

One follow-up question. I asked my old school mechanic who likes to work on American cars more than my car if he could replace my timing belt for me and he said as long as it is a "single overhead cam" and not a "dual overhead" one. Is my P2 a "single overhead cam"? It...

Re: '02 V70 (Timing Belt parts question)

Just do it yourself, lots of info on this forum on how to. I think I posted a thread on the job from last year with pictures. It's a straightforward job without any pitfalls if you follow the instructions. Should take less than 4 hours if you're slow and methodical. Marking the old belt with a white...

Re: '02 V70 (Timing Belt parts question)

My local shop just did mine at just under 290k on my 2002 V70 2.4T. no issues so far. I would have done it myself, but time, space, and comfort were factors. I really couldn't afford to make a mistake, and Volvo is almost all my guys do, and I've trusted them for almost 15 years with that car for th...

Re: '02 V70 (Timing Belt parts question)

We just did this job last night on my son’s 2007 V70, and we’re sailing down I-84 now. +1 on Yes on the water pump, roller & tensioner with the timing belt. Don’t try to save money on any of these things, like the Continental or stock Volvo belt is best imo. The function and supporting gear for ...

Re: 2002 V70 (Labor Hrs. for Oil Breather Box)

Perhaps 4 hours for experienced Volvo tech. Just my guess. I did it and it took me much longer.

Re: 2002 V70 (Labor Hrs. for Oil Breather Box)

Just had this done locally. Was billed for 4.5h labour and the total bill for PCV system replacement came to $700 with parts. The mechanic wanted to drop and clean the oil pan, I declined, but this may have been the wrong call—my engine is still leaking. His quote with the oil pan cleaning was $1500...

….but how do i keep from losing the nut once it is loose?
Sometimes, in this situation, I’ll hold one of those extendable magnets up against the bottom of the socket while I unscrew the last few turns. That keeps the nut attracted to the socket.
