I use this laboratory gadget. I can't believe I didn't break it yet!
Also, to get an accurate reading, you should let the drained oil to cool down to 60 deg F.
But I get a good ballpark of what came out.

Re: ATF change out
Transmission has around 8 qt total capacity, about 3-3.5 quarts are in sump. You drain that and replace the fluid. Drive some miles/days/months, repeat. You can't replace 100% of ATF, it's physically impossible. Unless you wash like 40-50 quarts through the transmission to lower the old fluid conten...

Re: ATF change out
This repeat eliminates the need for resetting fluid counter via VIDA. You don't have to do that. I never reset the counter. The counter is incremented when ATF temperature exceeded 300F and keeps there for 3 minutes. When the counter reaches some value, the transmission changes its shifting strateg...

Re: Battery Light
I just dealt with this problem last week with a new 2001 V70 XC I bought. I put my battery in that was next to new in it and "service electrical system" light came on. I had to swap out alternators. Use a multimeter and check the alternator while the car is running. If the alternator is le...

Re: Battery Light
Batteries CAN be good and rechargeable even after a deep discharge. BUT, it will need to be recharged by a separate charger as Abscate noted. Low buss voltage means the CAN (Car Area Network) buss voltage is too low to operate all of the electronics on the car. Unlike an old chevrolet, these cars wi...

Re: Engine Temp. High?
Yes! Those symptoms all points to a failed ECT sensor. The car isn't hot, rather the sensor is sending faulty information that it is, reflected in the gauge behavior and the fans turning on the cool it off. Info from he ECT is also used by the ECM to adjust the air:fuel ratio so the car may be runni...

Re: Which pulley is this?
That's the drive belt idler pulley, 8627994 for an 02 V70. The serp belt tension is determined by the spring in the serp tensioner so no issue with how tight the mechanic adjusted something. Not sure if a slight of wobble is unusual, haven't really looked there carefully. FYI you possibly could re-p...

Re: Which pulley is this?
I changed this pulley on my 07 XC70 and I don't remember any unusual details so I will say it's not a bad job. Very similar to replacing the tensioner. I was doing other items at the same time but here's what you would need to do: - Probably easiest to move the power steering and coolant reservoirs ...

Re: Front Strut Assembly Question?
Mr Detail, If you haven't bought any struts yet, I would recommend you to take a look at the KYBs. I put them on my 04 S60 and the ride is very smooth. Usually folks would put SACHS as they were the OEM supplier for the P2 platform however, some have questioned their quality over the past few years ...
