Re: The classic ticking
I have had my ‘94 850 Turbo since 1995 and from ~2000-2010 I had the common lifter tick at startup and cold idle. Beginning 2010 through today (200K miles) I’ve flushed the engine prior to oil changes using ‘Motor Medic’s’ five minute oil flush then add the recommended amount of Sea Foam on top of f...

Re: 96 855: shifting not as smooth as it used to be
I haven't driven the R that much the past year and I noticed the other day that it shifts kinda rough from 3 to 4 and also shudders when engaging reverse. One time it didn't fully disengage when coming to a full stop and took off harshly after hitting the gas pedal. Because it has not been worked m...

Re: Motor block leaks from between 2 halves
I would say " Yes ". That little o-ring needs to be replaced. Tad bit easier than splitting the block.

Re: Motor block leaks from between 2 halves
Won't hurt to clean it up and check again but your evidence is pretty compelling - it's definitely the turbo oil return drain line seal. Sounds like if you get it into boost just a couple times and take it home to check, you will probably see the leak already. There is also a paper seal on the top, ...

Re: oil catchcan
The oil could be coming from anywhere. You're gonna have to look all around the engine bay to find it. If the engine is really gross you may need to clean it so you can find fresh oil. A clogged PCV system can force oil from any crankcase seals such as the oil cap, cam seals, oil dipstick, turbo lin...

Re: The classic ticking
I'm not saying don't change the gaskets/o-rings, but if it is a single lifter having the issue, and the rest is working correctly - do you really think it is an oil pressure issue? There's a write up somewhere, maybe robertdiy, you'll find it if you look around, maybe you won't need it, sounds like...

Re: The classic ticking
It's a reasonable job to pass on. I had someone do my last Volvo that needed said repair. I also passed on my head gasket, burnt valve and am glad I did, as a bunch of other stuff was discovered that needed attention along the way. We all need to cut ourselves a break and be okay with it.

Re: The classic ticking
On the 960 (straight 6 built off of the straight 5), the common ticking is from a faulty oil pick up tube. Thats what I was told by plenty of people. So your i5 being a 93 could have a faulty oil pick up tube or bad oil pan O-rings as scot850 mentioned.

Re: P80 headlights Possible to Remove Headlight Reflector, rechroming discussion 8628402 8628403
Another option, but not as cheap as tape (or film). Heck it is close to the price of a TYC headlight ... "Great For Re-Plating Headlight Reflectors" https://www.amazon.com/E-Z-Way-Restoration-Products-Silverplater/dp/B00HFER3AE It’s easy to put down a layer of silver but it has to be opti...
