Re: New coolant return hose is hard and cracking
Unfortunately, I don't see how a replacement could help if they just give me another low quality part... from the Volvo brand. Is aftermarket better at this point? Perhaps proactive replacement is no longer the smart option for certain parts, causing a downgrade in quality. The hose is more firm in ...

Re: Fix or Scrap?
I am waiting for two other estimates on the engine swap. I am hoping it can be done as a unit since my engine and transmission have only 95,000 original miles - but it's sounding like $1500 - $2000 for the swap. Back in 2009, I blew the engine in my 2000 V70. I paid $10,000 for a used engine, shipp...

Re: Fix or Scrap?
It's great to hear that you both stuck a deal and you'll get to keep an XC on the road. You both win knowing that two car halves will make a whole. I just started a newcomers guide to ownership and maintenance to help you and others level up their experience with these cars. It began as a comment ab...

Newcomers guide to ownership and maintenance
Here is a list of resources for people new to ownership and/or maintenance of Volvo and the 850 / S/V/C70 (the P80 platform). Despite the age of these cars, I still see new owners posting here eager to tear into their projects. This information is also for owners who might have missed some of these ...

Re: Sales, discounts, and obscure parts direct from Volvo
I may have missed some sales in early 2024 but I've learned to expect the annual Independence Day sale . It's better this year at 10% off <$200 or 15% off >$200 from 7/1/24 through 7/5/24. Evaluate ordering from your local dealership to see if they offer a constant 10% off discount which will combin...

Re: Parts brands - OE Volvo, trusted aftermarket, and bad
Rubber is a place where the cost cutting comes back to boil you over. Volvo rubber seems to last 20 years plus and those turbo hoses are getting baked Even Volvo brand hoses must be suspect these days, to the point where quality aftermarket like do88 may be better. I bought Volvo brand coolant hose...

Re: FCP Euro coupon code for 5% off
FCP is offering their Labor Day sale, offering up to 20% off certain products, no code required. I'm not sure when it started but it ends 9/3/24. It's nice that there's no minimum spend, so place your small orders now. A few parts waiting in my cart are marked down so I may buy them now.

Re: Exhaust manifold to catalytic converter nuts and studs rust welded
Yes, Kroil is what I'm using. I believe it's aerosol without silicone. I would heat the parts to hopefully introduce some expansion and gaps, then spray the hot or warm parts with oil. Wear a respirator because a lot of oil will immediately vaporize. I hope some oil worked its way in despite that. I...

Re: Sales, discounts, and obscure parts direct from Volvo
I was disappointed to find the discount is only for parts in current stock. I need a $500 window switch. Interesting, I've gotten the discount on parts which needed to be ordered. The website let me place the order through the local dealership, but the dealership called and said the part would take...

Re: Volvo Polar Bear
You find the coolest stuff for your gem 850. At some car show, someone will know everything about that bear and be glad to tell you.
