Re: Starting the engine at -25C
Still starting fine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PGhSRJgNgo Same temp here this morning in northern maine. I bought a $200 battery this winter. Starts fine. Snowblower was the bigger concern, got a Honda clone 8hp engine last month from HF. Volvo fire up so quickly when in fine condition anyway...

Re: Replaced the temp sensor: No heat, ambient temp display reads "--"
So I did a bunch of poking, prodding and checking today. I checked the function of the blend doors, thinking they were bound up, had bad actuators, broken arms, or needed to be calibrated. Everything worked as expected, when I turned the temp knobs from cold to hot, the arms moved the doors fine, on...

Re: Starting the engine at -25C
Most people in Sweden who live where winter actually means winter buy the car with a engine heater installed from the factory. Are these the coolant warming heaters? I've found a video on internet. However this device only seems to me it fastens up a little the coolant warming by heating faster the...

Re: Maybe it's just me, but this 0W-30 oil is impressive in very cold weather
Castrol Edge Professional A3 0w30 is what the official dealers use over here (Germany). However, I found it harder to obtain than 0w40 oils and also more expensive and so I switched to 0w40. Did not notice a difference in cranking but I seem to have lost some fuel economy, although it's hard to say ...

Re: Maybe it's just me, but this 0W-30 oil is impressive in very cold weather
My experience with cold temps is limited but we did just go through 2 spates of comparable weather. Been using a variety of 5W-30 oils (any brand conv. or syn.) for ~15 years in "the same" engine. I've never noticed anything amiss during the coldest of cold start ups. I read about Mobil1 0...

Re: Busted control arm, needs new CV Half Shaft too… worth the work?
The control arms are mainly different by the quality of bushing used. The front front bushing was made by Lemforder as OEM and I don't believe Beck/Arnley uses Lemforder bushing. I replaced my control arms/bushing x3. Lemforder bushing is strongly recommended. Checking the condition of tie rods is e...

Re: airbag advice needed please
The Volvo XC 90, does not have a fuel inertia switch. The system is set up, so that if the air bags deploy, the SRS module will send a signal to the Central Electrical Module (CEM), to immediately kill power to the fuel pump and stop the engine. In the event any air bags deploy, you will need VIDA-D...

Re: Water in Gas
That's a lot of water. You might look at the station where you last purchased gas as a possible cause. It happens. Once a year or so locally I'll hear of some station where their underground tank didn't get sealed properly after a delivery and a torrential rain ends up in people's fuel tanks. Or the...

Re: 2001 V70 2.4T Need advice on quality upper radiator hose and clamp
For more detail, here are some close-up shots. Old Hose Clamps -- Off-the-shelf hose clamps from Advance Auto Parts. Notice how the mechanism joins on the back, which means that if it starts to separate, as this one did, you get extra junk digging into your hose. Also notice the open slots which are...
