The spring seat of strut is most likely torn. This causes a hollow clunking.

Ethanol (E10) blended gas at the pumps is the problem. Ethanol attracts water so if your tank is less than full you have moist air in rest of tank space.

Spray a cloth with your preferred treatment then wipe the door seals, no over spray. I put the four snow tires on my '94 850 because it has over 300,000 miles and keep the newer ones parked.

Definitely don't take that one off yet. As Misha pointed out hood could fly open. My safety latch was similar to yours and I forgot to fully close one day, hood lifted, stuck head out window to safely pull over. Ordered new one when I got home. Need to see where the grease is coming from. If boot is still good it may be coming from loose clamps, you may be able to tighten a little.
