Re: Lower Thermostat Housing Replacement - 1998 V70R
Grinding wheel worked nicely. I had to reduce the business end of the shank about 3-1/2". 3rd, bottom bolt came out without a fight, just like the top 2. Put everything back together. Drove about 30 miles last night. Didn't leak. No drips under the car this morning. Will replace the 2 upper hou...

Re: Got a question on the parking prawl or w.e its called
The other thing THAT MUST BE DONE is to assure the linkage is properly adjusted. With car on level ground and parking brake securely firmly set do the following: You remove air cleaner box to get ready access and view of the cable and the shifter lever. Remove the cable from lever. Make sure the lev...

Re: Throttle Body Cleaning
Seafoam makes a product with a long "straw" that slips under one of the intake hose joints and allows you to spray the cleaner into the engine upstream of the throttle body while it's running. That way you don't have to manually go in there and spray and scrub. If they are easy to remove I...

Re: Volvo 850 manual shifter problem
As it turns out, was the silliest problem ever! 30 minutes and some duct tape rectified it! I had lost 4th gear, and reverse as well the night before. Next morning, took it apart, as I've been skipping second gear this entire time.... Turned out one of the sleeves had come undone.... To find this, s...

Re: '98 V70 camshaft seals and crank seal
If the cam/crank seals do not leak, leave them alone.
The CAM seals are NOT easy, especially the exhaust seal
The CRANK seal is part of the Oil Pump kit.

Re: '98 V70 camshaft seals and crank seal
I would say if it is not broken, then leave it alone. If your PCV system is working good, and pressure is not building up, (balloon test on oil dip stick), leave it be. At 140,000, that is young.

Re: What tool for Thermostat housing
Might be oversized but for sure it's one of them TORXs
I remember getting a set of them at Home Depot for $20 and they have been useful working on Volvos. Harbor Freight might have them as well.

98 V70: Front Crank Seals & WP Leaking
Evidently, the sled motor so enjoys my hands under her hood the past 7 months, she's feeling abandoned now that much of the work is finished. Thus, she's acting out again to draw more attention...and I thought chicks were high-maintainence! First, I finally found the source of the oil spots on the g...
