Re: Coronavirus Thread

My wife and I live on a boat in Los Angeles. Small space. I can work from home thanks to our internet connection. The organization I work for provides medical and related services to populations in dire situations, mostly man-made (in places like Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia and so on). ...

Re: Weird metal grinding noise when driving away

I would also check the parking brake shoes. On our S80, last year I found the brake material had separated from the metal backing, in pieces, so I had to fit new parts. From the work you did on the front brakes, it seems very unlikely that that is where the problem lies. Succes ermee.

Re: Battery Drain

It sounds like the battery is the culprit, try the temporary swap. My batteries when fully charged sit at around 12.9 volts. If there's no parasitic draw to speak of I'd think it has to be the battery.

Re: 2005 V50 Gas Pedal Sensor trouble

Just a real stab in the dark here, but maybe it's not the gas pedal module but the wiring to/from it, close to the module. So replacement of the module temporarily 'fixed' the wiring issue, but not really. Codes would be helpful too.

Re: Showing a lot of love to the S 80 (1999)

Wow is right. I was especially impressed by the blinker light before and after picture. Great job!

Re: 2012 C70 T5 vibration under acceleration and noise

Did you check the cv axles for play on either end? That would be my first pick, otherwise check the engine/trans mounts, in particular the one underneath the battery. Plus suspension components, such as control arms, strut bearings.

Re: Car sat for six years. What to check?

I had a too-old tire but with great tread depth disintegrate on me once on the highway. Don't risk it for a couple hundred bucks. I would definitely investigate any fuel smell/leak and carry a proper fire extinguisher in the meanwhile. Other than that not too much to worry about I would say. Clear a...

Re: Maintenance Log - An expensive and naive s70 rebuild - life lessons earned and the quest to make it worth it.

Good story. When you invest in repairs, you're buying future miles. My two tips for financial health are (1) earn as much as you can (I have found you can often raise your sslary, if you are employed, much more by switching jobs, rather than through raises. Of course, important promotions can also w...

Re: 94 T5 - could my timing belt been off a tooth?

When I replaced my timing belt two years ago I did so very carefully, and yet after double-checking I found it was one tooth off, so I wasn't careful enough. I corrected it before starting the engine. The engine ran better than with the old belt, which I found slightly, slightly longer than the new ...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?

I replaced all 4 wheel bearings as a precaution. On my 2002 S80 with approx 230K kms a wheel bearing had started to make noise and I figured on the one year older and 30K kms more experienced C70 its factory original bearings would not be far behind. On the S80, 3 of the 4 bearings showed signs of g...
