Re: No reverse after replacing solenoids transmission [99 S70]

Take a look at this: https://www.volvoclub.org.uk/tech/service/850/AutoTransDiagnosis.pdf Note page 5/38 - go through the chart and make sure solenoid 2 is working. It is odd that the car drives normally - as #2 is needed "on" for 1st and 2nd gear. Further down the pdf it has all the diagn...

Re: Alternative Transmission?

What is wrong with your transmission? The GM 4t65E, although not a great transmission, is a pretty easy transmission to repair. If you can tell me what is wrong with your transmission I may be able to give you some advice. Basically two things go wrong - the transmission clutch packs wear out due to...

Re: P0442 Volvo XC90

see here: http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/topic/168329-location-of-evap-purge-valve-on-a-2004-xc90-t6/ (use the embedded link within for actual parts diagram) I would start with the easiest - gas cap. Make sure it is tight and the sealing ring is in good condition. From there I would tell you to try ...

Re: Cooling system pressurized

Sounds like you have either a bad thermostat or a blown head gasket. Maybe a failed water pump. You can try installing a new thermostat. What does the hose running to it feel like? Hot? Does it feel like coolant is flowing through it? How does your oil look? Can you pull the spark plugs and look at ...

Re: Oil on My Spark Plugs!

This is a tough one and will take a few steps to get to the problem. Oil can be coming from three places: 1). From oil fill cap; 2) from valve cover and 3) up from the piston. What does the top of piston #2 look like? Is it full of oil? What does spark plug look like reative to others? You need to c...

Re: Headlight glass replacement?

If you can find them make sure they are DOT compliant if USA car.

There are some videos. Clips and glue. I have done it on other foreign cars. Nothing complicated. Patience, care, and heat.

Re: 2004 v70.

How were you driving the car before shut down when it happens? What you describe is rather odd. Valve stem seals would be consistent leakers and smoke once you start it up after sitting. This is not what you describe. I know with two of my none Volvos if I move them and don’t drive them (on under a ...

Re: Motor Seized? Next steps?

I have the 2004 X3. Agree that BMW service at the dealer can by bank drying. Then again so are Volvos. The X3 is a fairly easy car to work on and the parts are fairly cheap as the motor is used in countless BMWs. I prefer the M54 over the newer N motors. M54 is old school design but very robust - en...

Re: 2003 Xc90 6T w/69000 miles ...Run away or Buy?

I will answer your question from two angles. My family owns both a 2004 XC90 T6 and a 2016 XC90. Over the years I have owned various other Volvos with both the 2.5T and 2.9 engine. I think this will be helpful as it will give you insight into how much the car costs to maintain. To help keep househol...

Re: Coolant leaking into Head? 2004 V70

First - STOP DRIVING THE CAR. You may cause further damage and ruin the engine. It sounds like your head gasket is blown. Best things to look at are the engine oil, it most likely will be milky brown and the engine coolant if any is in there, it may have oil mixed in. This is an almost 100% head gas...
