Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?

You should replace the capacitors in the old one and keep it as a spare. I’d definitely give it a shot. Is there a how-to somewhere? If not, might be worth it to crack it open and try to figure it out. There is a write up on this here, I’ll try find it. Chuck W and Mr Al in NJ! Have led the way on ...

Re: P80 Oil Cooler Hose Replacement

When I did the RN oil pan/cooler install on my '97 T5, I wound up just using generic 5/8" high-temp silicone hose for the -92 one. https://turbochuckcom.ipage.com/webimages/projects/97%20Volvo%20854T5/2020/EnginePrep/coolerhosein_1.jpg When I need to replace the other original, they make a u-be...

Re: P80 Oil Cooler Hose Replacement

Yeah.

You said you talked with do88. Their Heater Hoses for the RN P80s might be usable, but I don't remember the size of the hoses offhand. I want to say 5/8"/16mm.

Re: P80 Oil Cooler Hose Replacement

This uses a Gates 18821 hose on his P1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=1cTLgtHmABU That might work as a non-silicone substitute for the left hose on the cooler. The way it bends back out would be beneficial. The P80 and P2 coolant pipes don't elbow out like the P1's evidently do, so...

Re: Wierd Electrical Issue

The '95 won't have the "kidney box", but all of the other points still apply to check.

Check the lighting relay for the high-beams. It's located in the fuse box under the cover. (You have to unbolt the cover to access the relays)

Re: 850R ECU Identity?

Not really any way to identify internally, and you can't "read" it without specialized equipment. It's possible it's A) a stock -628 M4,3 ECU that someone didn't like the labels on. B) Another M4.3 ECU that someone has flashed the stock -628 R bin onto, or C) a modified ECU that someone ha...

Re: 850R ECU Identity?

It's honestly all in the programming.

As long as it's from a turbo car, all of the ECUs are the same internally. (The NA ECUs didn't have some of the components installed in the boards)

Re: 850R ECU Identity?

There are differences in the Auto vs Manual ECUs, and are listed as separate in the Motronic Suite stuff.

Re: 850R ECU Identity?

The tunes are slightly different, between the manual and the auto ECUs. The main thing is if the ECU will be looking for a TCM or not. If it tries to communicate with one that isn't there, it will give you a CEL. The Motronic PDFs are available HERE . At the end of the M4.3 one is a list of most of ...
