Re: P80 Bastards vs -1998 Voltage Importance on Running

Why is it our nature to run a battery to complete failure while we do preventive replacement for many other more expensive (less critical?) parts? volvolugnut Hi, I think it is because it is harder to determine when the battery is actually really bad unless something drastic goes wrong like no cran...

Re: P80 Bastards vs -1998 Voltage Importance on Running

I just got a NAPA H6 for $145 after Napa bucks and a promotion sale. They’d replaced my last one free after I completely abused it on a current drain car, so I rewarded them with more business Why is it our nature to run a battery to complete failure while we do preventive replacement for many othe...

Re: How to test a battery cable?

I have seen/read stuff on this, but how do you test a battery cable to know if it is good? As anyone who knows and has removed one of these cables, it is a major pain as Volvo routes the +ve cable though a couple of metal ties that have to be removed, but then also through the main wiring harness a...

Re: How to test a battery cable?

Al, many thanks for all the helpful info. The best I can do is a 30V DC power supply, not sure what the current rating is! I can make up a simple load like a headlight and/or interior fan motor that can run at load for a long time. Starter motors is another but they are not designed to run continuo...

Re: Why did volvo remove the variable intake manifold?

For a while now I have studied why the P2 platform NA engines had this weird torque dip around 2000-3000rpm. I started to speculate it's either something related to emissions and is related to valve overlap between intake or exhaust(this cannot be cured without a different exhaust) OR it had to do ...

Re: Simple Volvo Tweeter Modification

Hello Everyone, I see this thread was resurrected recently from an old old 2010 post. Still an interesting read though, and updates are always nice too. Since I dealt with these issues almost every day for the past 50 years or more I figured I would add just a little for those interested. As most of...

Re: 98 S70 upper radiator hose again

How in the heck do you get past that line on the right T40 torx on the thermostat? I tried my socket with extension and bit and no way. I'm looking at ordering one of these -- one is a Klein which is nice but wondering what you use to get access to that screw? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005...

scot850 wrote: 05 May 2024, 00:08 I'm not saying the -98 car's can't have issues due to low voltage, it is that there are less parts of the system that are that sensitive.

Neil.
Oh that's great news. The problem I was talking about involved a 'bad' component anyway it was not a normal sensitivity.

Re: Fuel Pump Relay 9434225 Examinations 1998 v70 non turbo

Hello again, I just wanted to add, if that circuit were to be used it would have to be fully and carefully tested because it involves an important safety feature of the car. That means that the circuit should probably be taken as an example of what could have been used, but because it has not yet be...
