Over filling would be a problem. I would monitor it and the system for a while to make sure no seal damage was done.
I can't recall now which power steering pump version it is that had an issue with an internal pipe coming off/loose causing issues.

You should replace the drier at the same time. It is not a terrible job, just time. Disconnect the serpentine belt. Being an 850, the alternator is not mounted on the same mounts as the AC compressor. I'm sorry it has been a long time since I did one on an -98 car! I think the compressor can come ou...

You'll notice the difference when it's timed properly. Mine was off a tooth for years also, then when the interval for replacement was up, voila, ran smoother and a bit more peppy.

Also timing belts can stretch, it may have just been that especially if it appeared to be more like 3/4 of a tooth etc.

Mine was also off by a bit, I didn't do the last replacement myself but shop said so. Also finally made the car perform properly, I did have a thread here because it had no power in high rpm :D My guess is that there are some people changing them that don't know what they are doing. Doubt it jumped ...
