Just a comment - upper spring seats on struts can wear (or be cheap crud from the get-go) and cause a "thunk" that appears when braking with moderate to hard force AND when shifting from reverse to forward and visa-versa.

Seems like if it's blowing out of your tailpipe, then either turbo, valves, or rings. But if you're having other issues with the turbo, then I'd lean that way. Compression test would tell you more.

I kept the original separator box, and just ran the additional catch can in line. Yes, it vents to atmosphere instead of going into the turbo, intercooler etc. I'm not sure if you can use it with the stock hose kit. I don't think so.
