Re: Leaky front engine seals, oil trap..... $1900?

A few random thoughts based on my limited, but in this case, fairly specific experience as a home mechanic. I have a 2001 V70 2.4T. Having done both the timing belt and the oil trap jobs this summer (but not the oil seals, kicking myself now for not doing them at the time), I would say that the timi...

Re: How to get oil out of Spark Plug Cylinders

I've used a turkey baster to suck oil out of spark plug wells. I've also used small plastic pipettes to suck oil from places where the turkey baster wouldn't fit.

Re: Starting the engine at -25C

Nice. Not quite as cold down here, but I had no trouble starting the '01 V70 at 1F/-17C this morning.

US synthetic != actual synthetic though.
That line gave me a bad C++ flashback.
Glad I followed it up with a line about pointers!

Re: 2001 V70 2.4T Need advice on quality upper radiator hose and clamp

For more detail, here are some close-up shots. Old Hose Clamps -- Off-the-shelf hose clamps from Advance Auto Parts. Notice how the mechanism joins on the back, which means that if it starts to separate, as this one did, you get extra junk digging into your hose. Also notice the open slots which are...

Re: Serious front of engine oil leak '04 XC70

I'm not sure why I hadn't seen this before, but it actually looks like Home Depot sells these bolts (and my local store seems to have them in stock for pickup): https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-M7-1-0-x-80-mm-Zinc-Class-8-8-Metric-Hex-Bolt-839058/205037780 That's basically it, right? No idea abo...

Re: What kind of sealant for the cam cover?

Also make sure every mating surface is super duper clean before applying it. Recommend using gloves to handle cam cover so that you don't accidentally get finger oils on the fresh sealant. Another gotcha is that I had accidentally left a small amount of oil sitting in the rings for the spark plug tu...

[2001 V70 2.4T] ECM-644A - Camshaft control, faulty position

VIDA has been showing me this code for about a year now. The car still starts and runs normally for the most part, but I do notice that the first time I start it up after the battery has been disconnected, there is some sputtering, as I think the computer must be adjusting to compensate for the cond...
