The odometer is easy to fix and you'll put in four (or six) new bulbs at the same time. It shouldn't be too expensive, most likely a lot less expensive than getting another cluster. If the 850 has ODBII (from the late 95 models), you could get it to work with a '97 or '98 S/V70 cluster. Found an arc...

The '96 and on instrument clusters are different animals. The speed sensor signal is completely different since it was a sine wave signal that comes off of the transaxle on the early models, the later versions had a digital speed signal that comes off of the ABS module. Now I chuckle at people flooring their cars when the lights go green only to get stuck at the next light that hasn't yet had the time to turn green. When I was younger, I was one of them. :D

Sounds to me like a bad thermostat for issue #1. A quick temporary fix could be to use a piece of cardboard and cover up half of your radiator until you can change the thermostat. Not sure about issue 2 though.

You can't clean it out, but should treat the symptoms just like you did. Actually, you can.
