Re: Financial Distress Parts Program

I would like to donate a 1998 V70 T5 that runs fairly well, needs some work to be legal (exhaust), needs other work in general (transmission, rear bumper, rear window). It potentially is transportation and if not is probably a reasonable parts car. Is there some way to get this to the FDPP or other ...

Re: 2004 XC70 remove steering rack - help with final steps

A pry bar adjusted by a ratchet clamp (for fore/aft movement) plus a floor jack under the engine (for up/down) (photo attached) allowed the engine mount to be aligned with the subframe. After reassembling everything and a driveway test drive the steering rack no longer leaks. Amazing. Can't do a rea...

Re: 2004 XC70 no start - faulty fuel pump and/or electrical connections?

Hard to tell at this point what is going on ... wrap all wires ... with addition of curse towards all rodents ... open the tank and inspect what is going on ... also remove the actual pump from its housing ... create emergency "defibrillator" ... Fingers crossed your issues are fixed. I w...

Re: 2004 XC70 no start - faulty fuel pump and/or electrical connections?

OP Update: Car continues to start without fail. Changed fuel filter 2 weeks ago. An initial hesitation when starting persisted for several days, long after the fuel line should have been fully primed. I thought this was odd but it always started. Starting is now back to normal. However, I soon notic...

Re: 2004 XC70 problems with instrument cluster and headlights after air bag recall

Here are my notes when my light switch module started acting up. It ended up being a bad solder joint with the 12V supply to the 5V regulator IC or at one of the 5V IC legs. I could flex the circuit board and it would start working so I knew it had a bad solder joint. See the pdf for the locations ...

Re: Torque Spec Suspension Track Bar / Panhard Rod

Typical Volvo, they call the are a 'Stay' in the parts listing/drawings and then call it a tie-rod in the repair instructions. So it took a bit to find it. The inner end with the eccentric bolt is 80Nm as is the outer also 80Nm which id what I recall they use for a standard M12 bolt. Neil. This par...

Re: wrap flex tube for temp repair

OP here with new info and plan. I removed the metal mesh that covers the flex tube to discover the tube is fine but had completely separated from the pipe leading to the cat. I wrapped this flex/cat joint and tube/pipewith several partially overlapping layers of aluminum tape, redid the cat/resonato...

Re: id bolts, nuts, screws in general and for 2004 XC70 headlight level sensor assembly

... maybe buy 2 or 3 diameters and I would include M3, and the see if/what gives the best and tightest fit in the holes. Neil. The female fittings are in the subframe and frame (I think). Matching requires driving the vehicle to a supplier and removing the left rear wheel for access (so jack stands...

Re: 2004 XC70 no start - faulty fuel pump and/or electrical connections?

Replaced the fuel pump today. Car starts fine. It actually "jumps to life", starting noticeably more quickly. Only time will tell if this corrects the problem. The old pump cycled between fail/good for at least 2 years with good cycles being up to 6 months long (like the most recent cycle)...

Re: Engine quit while driving!

Turns out I forgot to replace the plastic cover that shields the battery. I suspect the metal fitting at the end of the hanging strap shorted the battery. Gotta be more careful about reassembly.
