Re: Windscreen Glass, Pilkington or PPG/PGW?
Interesting. Windscreen ordered through PPG/PGW came. Installed this morning, picked the car up this afternoon. $20 more through PPG, the glass is made by FYG/Fuyao DOT 459 AS1 and "solar tint". Doesn't say PPG or PGW on it anywhere. Slightly lower price windscreen they had on the shelf th...

Re: Windscreen Glass, Pilkington or PPG/PGW?
At the least 3M would have a competing interlayer product. And probably some patent sharing/licensing agreements between the two. The sheer number of 3M's various product offerings is staggering. If you can touch, see, smell, burn, breath, stick it, or feel it, 3M probably either makes it or makes s...

Re: Shift Flare on a 2004 S60
A single 3.5l drain and fill only results in a minor improvement when symptoms are more pronounced. Mine @ 100k miles wasn't quite as funky as yours at 150k. I don't think I ever saw the tach jump more than 200-250 RPM. But 2-3 was the worst, and sometimes 3-4 very minor with an occasional harsh dow...

Re: Tire wear reports anyone?
It looks like it eats tires just like the original XC90. Typical of mid end lux, they can't get too fancy with the suspension design while chasing ride quality and keep the price in check. 'Basic suspension design' atop a subframe with soft squishy bushes is typical of the segment. The result is a ...

Re: Windscreen Glass, Pilkington or PPG/PGW?
Brian, great information here. Thanks for walking us through your decision points. Added to the Repair Database. The more l looked at Fuyao as a company (googling for information), the more favorable they looked as a reasonable, most likely OE quality ARG supplier. Then when the glass sourced throu...

Re: Windscreen Glass, Pilkington or PPG/PGW?
I figured out how to remove the rain-x, or whatever similar product the glass installer applied, or persistent oily slick from manufacturing without too much trouble. Like rain-x, going over it with alcohol just smears the stuff around after which it dries to a white haze you can't see through until...

Re: 2004 XC70 Broken front macpherson strut spring after being towed home.
I don't quite understand how the lateral force presented to the coil spring by a tow truck would be different than the same stresses that you would see normally through stomping on the gas or braking hard. The tow truck grabs onto the wheel, not the spring. I'm thinking that would have broke soon wi...

Re: ECM121B code when below freezing
The calibration it needs is performed by the ECU automatically by simply turning the key to KPII/Run without starting the engine. Leave in in KPII for 60-90 seconds. After about 20 or so seconds in KPII if you listen closely under the hood in that area you'll hear a faint whining sound that comes an...

Re: Which ones are good and which are trouble?
If you're looking to minimize maintenance time and costs stick with the front wheel drive turbo or non turbo variants. And yes, probably avoid the early 'T6' models that used the GM made transmission, which is the XC90 "T6" 2003-2005, and the S80 "T6" 1999-2005. If you're not con...

Re: 2006 Volvo S60 2.5 AWD, Endless search of problem
That's worn enough to start binding in my opinion. Worn.JPG When you zoom in more closely, the profile of a couple of the teeth on the bottom of the large center gear is worn down to a "V" shape as opposed to the others that have retained their original profile more like a pencil with flat...
